ABOUT

I am an artist working primarily in oil, with additional work in watercolor and other mediums when the subject calls for it. I’m inspired by a wide range of subjects—most often nature, but also everyday scenes, architecture, and occasionally people. What connects my work is the initial emotional response to a moment: an idyllic rural landscape, bright flowers, a piece of fruit, or a quiet figure enjoying the sun. I paint what brings me joy and what I feel compelled to revisit. Most of my paintings begin with a memory of a place or moment I’ve seen or experienced. I work almost entirely in the studio, using photo references along with sketches or thumbnails to develop the composition. From there, I build the painting with an emphasis on mood and atmosphere—whether it’s a sunny beach, a snowstorm, the quiet before rain, or the warmth of golden hour light. The painting process is immersive and often meditative. As I work, I revisit the memory and the feeling it left behind. I’m less interested in documenting a scene exactly and more focused on conveying the sense of being there. Rural landscapes and seascapes often draw me in for this reason, but I approach still life and figurative subjects in the same way—looking for moments that feel familiar, comforting, or quietly striking. Across subjects, I’m drawn to strong composition, contrast, and light. Whether painting a wide landscape or a simple cup of coffee, my goal is to create a moment that feels immediate, recognizable, and inviting.
